Corporations Who Support Women Globally
In response to a recent Huffington Post entry from Jane Fonda about the Women’s Media Center in Los Angeles, I found myself doing research on women holding high positions in companies and learned that women comprise only 13% of chief executive officers at Fortune 500 companies in the United States.
Many of our companies are supporting the global goals of women and I believe that we should reward them by re-telling their stories and supporting their businesses. One such company is Nike. While according to Hoovers.com, the top 3 positions are held by men – I was encouraged to see on their website a strong commitment to Diversity and Inclusion. Nike also has a Global Women’s Leadership Council (GWLC) whose role is to promotes and supports the career advancement of women within the company. It should come as no surprise that the Nike Foundation, the NoVo Foundation (Peter and Jennifer Buffett) and Nike Inc. are the co-creators of Girl Effect.
Without dropping too many names in one blog post. I do want to say that it was Robyn O’Brien, (author of The Unhealthy Truth: How Our Food Is Making Us Sick and What We Can Do About It) who first sent me to the Girl Effect site. Robyn is a true hero in the “food” and “toxins” space and I would be honored to interview her for this site.
